One killed in State 79 wreck, name released

VERNON - Washington County EMS, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and Vernon and Ebro fire departments were on the scene shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday when reports came in of a single-vehicle rollover on State 79 about three miles south of Vernon. The dark-green Honda four-door with Alabama plates was headed north when it went off the road to the right, hit a culvert, overturned and flipped over onto the roof. The driver was extricated using the "jaws of life" and other hand-held tools and was taken to Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was Ray Maxwell Lewis, 72, of Enterprise. He was treated for minor injuries according to FHP. Killed in the wreck was Joan King Lewis, 69, of Enterprise. Both were wearing seatbelts.
