One killed in Holmes County wreck

Gary W. Coia, 32, of Bonifay, received minor injuries in a two-car accident on July 2 about 12:30 p.m. while driving a 1990 Chevrolet pickup on State Road 79 at State 2.

Elizabeth L. Stone, 34, of Westville was driving a 2004 Chevrolet four-door sedan northbound no State 79. She received minor injuries. Annie L. Drake, 77, passenger in Stone’s vehicle was critically injured and taken to Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala. for treatment. Drake passed away at the hospital.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, Coia was driving westbound on State 2 when the brakes failed on his truck. The truck entered the intersection and collided with the right side of the other vehicle.

Coia was not wearing his seat belt. Stone and Drake were both wearing seatbelts.
