Vernon loses on the road to Sneads, 12-0

SNEADS — The Sneads Pirates got two touchdowns from Mark Lawson and shut out visiting Vernon 12-0 Friday night. It was the first time the Jackets have been shut out all season.

The game was a 0-0 tie at halftime before the Pirates got untracked with a six-play 66-yard drive finished up by a three-yard touchdown run by Mark Lawson with 8:50 left in the third quarter. Terrance Pittman’s interception of Vernon’s Dylan Lee set up Lawson’s second touchdown on a 12-yard run with 1:54 left in the third quarter.

Vernon threatened after a shanked punt gave the Jackets the ball at the Pirates’ 47 as the fourth quarter opened, but the drive was halted on downs at the Sneads 16-yard line.

Vernon (4-3) travels to South Walton Friday night.
