Board Chairman Terry Ellis asked if parental involvement was still a challenge for the school. Burdeshaw said at the last Parent-Teacher event the school hosted, only 20 parents showed up.

“We have more than 300 students, so that isn’t very good percentage-wise,” Burdeshaw said.

In other business, the school board approved several consent agenda items, including setting the 2012-13 salary schedule and the 2013-14 Washington County School Calendar.

Board member Susan Roberts had a question about Chipley High School’s Homecoming, which is tentatively planned for November. No date was specified on the calendar, and Roberts was told that the date was being changed due to a conflict with the standardized testing schedule.

Mark Hagerman, vice president of sales for ABM Building Services, also presented a brief overview of the energy savings the Washington-Holmes Technical Center has seen since the installment of the new HVAC systems. He asked board members to look over his handout so at the next board meeting he can present the results to the board and answer questions.

The Washington County School Board will meet again at 5 p.m. on April 8 at the district administration building in Chipley.
