“We had a tournament in a gym without AC,” said Watson. “I don’t believe it is good for the kids to play in an enclosed area at 170 degree Fahrenheit temperatures.”

Board approved of the list of out-of-field teachers for 2013-2014.

“ESE standards have changed this year,” said Dixon. “The standard is that teachers must be certified in every subject they teach so a few will have to take a little while but they’re working on it.”

Board also approved of out-of-county/state students, bell schedules and school advisory councils.

“I wanted to take a moment to say that Hawkins does such a good job,” said Dixon. “He puts in a lot of hard work. As far as schools go, we’re just really blessed.”

The next meeting of the Holmes County District School Board is set for 9 a.m. on Oct. 1.
