JROTC posts colors at Vernon Bridge Dedication

VERNON —Vernon High School’s JROTC Color Guard posted the colors at the Vernon Bridge Ribbon Cutting and Sign Dedication Celebration on Thursday, Feb. 14.

The Ceremony started at 11 a.m., with a welcome from the Mayor, Michelle Cook. She introduced Sheriff Bobby Haddock, who gave the invocation. After his moving prayer, the VHS’s JROTC Color Guard posted the colors. The VHS’s FFA, then, led us in the Pledge of Allegiance; followed by the VHS Marching Band performing the National Anthem.

Mayor Cook, then, introduced the various guests. After that, the president of the Vernon Historical Society, Angie Morris, talked about the changes that Vernon has gone through since it’s founding. Following her remarks, Secretary Tommy Barfield, from FDOT District 3, said a few words about the changes to come with the new bridge.

Mayor Cook asked the Vernon Historical Society and other distinguished guests to come stand at the front for a few pictures and the unveiling of the bridge sign. She, then, welcomed everybody to the new bridge for the ribbon cutting. The ceremony ended with Sheriff Bobby Haddock giving a blessing for the lunch meal that followed.
