Chipley High School Theatre Department Presents Flowers for Algernon

Published: Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 15:40 PM.

The compelling story of Charlie Gordon, a mentally challenged man, and the strange interweaving of his life with a mouse named Algernon. An experimental surgery performed on Algernon increased his intelligence fourfold. The operation is then tried on Charlie who increases in intelligence and surpasses his doctors and teacher, Alice Kinnian. As Charlie reaches the peak of his intelligence, Algernon shows frightening signs of regression. Charlie races against time to save himself and continue what he and Alice have found.

This is a different kind of play:  poignant, romantic, funny and tragic but with hope for man's indomitable spirit. In addition, it's an educational experience for the viewers.  Chipley HS Theater Department is very excited to perform for Roulhac Middle School, Marianna Middle School as well as Chipley High School. The schools are reading a short story of Flowers for Algernon and will then be joining Chipley HS for this superb performing experience.

The public performances will be on Thursday and Saturday at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and will be available at the CHS Main Office and at the door. We hope you will join us for this stirring experience where science collides with humanity.
