Investigation underway in Leon County fatal plane crash

TALLAHASSEE – The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to begin investigation today in to a plane crash in the forest northwest of Tallahassee Regional Airport Wednesday night.

The plane crashed at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday according to Tallahassee news media.

The U.S. Forest Service will close a motorcycle trail in the Apalachicola National Forest to the public today until further notice as the Leon County Sheriff’s Office conducts an investigation into a plane crash that occurred last night.  

The trail is located near the Tallahassee Regional Airport.  For those familiar with the trail system, all of Trail Number 12 will be closed except for Trail Number 12R.

Please check with the U.S. Forest Service Wakulla Ranger District Office at (850) 926-3561 before taking any planned trips to that area of the forest.

WCTV in Tallahassee reported that the victims were Donald and Victoria Hess, both 64, of Clarence, NY.
