Organization formed to oppose expansion of WC wet laws
CHIPLEY – An organization of private citizens has been formed and registered with the state of Florida to oppose expansion of Washington County liquor laws. The Citizens for Positive Development will hold a public meeting at the Possum Palace in Wausau on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m.
The Rev. Alcus Brock is spokesperson and registered agent for the organization. “We have sent in registration papers to the Florida Elections Commission and have opened a bank account,” Brock said. Brock also said that a treasurer has been elected, “and others have also come to offer support.”
Brock said the CPD is a group of private citizens doing business as private citizens. “We are not tied to any church or church organization,” Brock said. The CPD will open an office on Church Avenue in Chipley. For information call 326-2226.

| In Biblical times wine was used to purify the water that people drank. Wine was mixed with water to make it safe by killing bacteria. It was generally not drank full strength. With that said, there are a lot of people who go to neighboring counties to purchase liquor and bring it back to Washington county to consume it. Save us some gas money and let us buy it in our own back yards. The sale of liquor in this county will not increase crime rates as some have suggested. Alcohol is already sold here. There is no difference to take place other than much needed growth and employment for our unemployed citizens. That is what will slow crime here in the sticks. Alcus Brock is a wonderful man. He actually is NOT associated with any church. He is a former pastor who I am sure ATTENDS a church regularly but he has no church throwing him into this. Alcus is a man of God who believes what he is doing is the right thing. But we can't get to Heaven if he makes our choices for us. We have to make them on our own. It would be nice if the people of this county had that opportunity. |

| Reading articles like this really makes me wonder why I made the mistake of moving to Washinton County. I was pretty new to Florida from up North and mistakingly thought this area had potential for growth. Boy was I mislead. I never even realized dry counties still existed these days. How backwards can one county be? Seriously, some of these people need to get out of Mayberry and join the living. I've never seen a group of people so bent on keeping progress out and destroying any chance this area has to be prosperous. I am really thinking that we are going to have to move back to civilization as soon as we can get out of the house! |

| I have always said that Florida was a bull Holmes and Washington Counties would be his rear end. |

| Just think of the restaurants that would come and set up shop around I-10 if we allowed the sale of liquor. Chipley has the potential to drastically grow. Also think of the revenue that could be generated for the county. The oldtimers running things around here are so out of touch with reality it's not even funny. Get your noses out of your bibles for crying out loud. If people want liquor they go to Bonifay or Graceville and bring it back. It's not going to keep anyone from drinking by keeping this a "dry" county. |

| It is a handful of Political Preachers that wish to impose their personal believes on others. Liquor is already in this county, bought a paid for outside with no benefits to WC at all.
This County needs to grow up and not be held in the Stone Age, by a bunch of old codgers, that hide themselves under a Bible. Some of the flock will follow, only because they don't wish to be seen buying booze, where they might be recognized. I couldn't tell you how many "Non Drinkers" I have seen in Bonifay Liquor Stores.
These representatives may not have any affiliation with a particular church, but the fact that they are minsters says it all.
No one is asking that these Ministers buy booze, but DO NOT allow the CHURCH to dictate to the private citizen what they can or cannot do. That is a decision between God and themselves. |

| There are 67 counties in Florida, why must Washington Co be a backward one?
Everybody has liquor at home, it was bought elsewhere, but it was bought and taken home. You as a self proclaimed Reverend are doing more harm than good, by keeping back progress. No one wants to come to a county that is so backward. What kind of Reverend are you? Are you one of those mail order ones? The people of Washington county have had enough, we
want to be the same as other counties
and not be looked upon as backward folks. |
