One injured in bush hog accident - update

NEW HOPE – A member of the Holmes County Development Commission was badly injured in a bush hog accident Saturday morning. Dan Curry of New Hope appeared to be conscious and alert as he was being transferred to an AirHeart helicopter to be taken to a Tallahassee hospital.
People on the scene between the East Pittman firehouse and New Hope said that Curry was operating a bush hog on family property early in the morning when the bush hog apparently struck brush. Curry fell into the blade and reportedly lost part of one leg and the other was badly injured.
A driver said she found Curry after he managed to drag himself about 50 feet to State 2. She rushed to the New Hope firehouse and summoned assistance. Holmes County EMS, New Hope and East Pittman volunteer fire departments and Holmes County Sheriff’s Office responded. AirHeart set down on State 2 for the pickup. Curry underwent surgery Saturday and lost both his legs below the knee.
Curry is handicapped and did not have use of his legs before Saturday’s accident, but is extremely active. Family members said he operates the bush hog just about every weekend.
