Members of Vernon City Council agreed Monday to secure a bank loan to pay for FEMA projects while waiting on reimbursement approval from the agency.

On the list of proposed FEMA projects are repairs on Jackson St., Dawkins St., Dalton St., Pinecrest St., Pompey Ave., Ferris Circle, Cook Circle, Sasser St., Spoonmill Rd., Church St., and two culverts.

Total eligible projects are $147,613.57, with a federal share of $110,710.18.

In other action, council members agreed to hire Cheryl Davidson as the city's new Deputy Clerk and William Mitchell to fill the open laborer position.

Council members also voted to approve a contract with the Florida Department of Transportation that states the city will be paid for mowing the right-of-way on Highway 79 through Vernon, and voted to void the existing sprayfield maintenance contract with John Nichols on grounds that Nichols failed to comply with contract terms. The contract will be re-advertised for bids.

Vernon City Council will meet again at 7 p.m. Monday, July 7.
