Vernon joins WFRPC

VERNON- Vernon City Council kept the agenda short when they met in regular session Monday, Aug. 11.

Council members voted to join the West Florida Regional Planning Council (WFRPC), paying a $522.26 yearly membership fee. WFRPC, a multi-purpose regional entity recognized by the state, supports the region of Northwest Florida by coordinating solutions to growth-related problems and providing technical assistance to local governments.

The council also agreed to discuss transportation infrastructure projects to be submitted for the Florida Department of Transportation's Small County Outreach Program (SCOP) when they meet again Monday, Aug. 18. Application deadline for the project is Sept. 10.

In other action, the council:

  • Approved a discounted rate of $100 for Elvis Brown to rent the Community Center beginning Sept. 1. Brown will use the building for 24 non-consecutive days for the purpose of holding church services.
  • Approved the termination of a public works employee
  • Approved to advertise for the hiring of a city laborer
  • Approved the purchase of two brass valves with body and brush for the R09 conveyor in the amount of $1,195.30
