Man reportedly shot himself on Interstate 10 Friday night

Mobile Police said Smith robbed an elderly woman at gunpoint on Feb. 8, Then stole the woman’s 2005 Honda Accord, according to a report on Fox10tv.com.

 Police said Smith broke into the elderly woman's home through a window.

The woman said she returned home just after 2 p.m. When she entered her house, Smith entered the kitchen where he robbed her at gunpoint and fled.

Police said Smith is also wanted in connection with a robbery at a BankTrust that happened Jan. 5 in Mobile, according to the report.

In 1999, Smith was sentenced to 15 years in prison and treatment for drug and alcohol abuse after he pleaded guilty to robbing a bank by force or violence in federal court. Smith stole $2,000 from a Compas Bank in Mobile on April 14, 1999, according to a report on blog.al.com.

Records show Smith, who is from Citronelle, Ala., has previously faced charges of burglary, trespass and receiving stolen property in Mobile County.

On Feb. 8, Washington County Sheriff’s Office received information in reference to a Honda Accord that had traveled through Walton and Holmes County at a high rate of speed.
