Judy Corbus, Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent, has been appointed Interim County Extension Director following the retirement of Andy Andreasen, Washington County Extension Director, on Dec. 31.

Andreasen came to Washington County in 1999 from Jackson County, where he was Livestock Agent.  UF/IFAS Washington County Extension provides research-based information and educational programs in agriculture, lawn and garden, nutrition, money management, housing, food preservation, and 4-H youth development.

Washington County 4-H is full of educational opportunities in the coming months.  All Washington County Youth Fair entry forms are due Friday, Feb. 1 by 4 p.m.  A new event will debut at the Fair this year.  Youth will have the opportunity to show rabbits.

To prepare for this, we are hosting Hop2It!, an educational workshop on raising and showing rabbits. Hop2It! Rabbit Workshop is today, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the Agricultural Center East Wing.

The Washington County Youth Fair will open on Friday, March 1 at 8 a.m., for school tours and will be open until 6 p.m., on Saturday evening.  Florida agriculture will be highlighted throughout this year’s fair.  Come learn interesting facts about the fruits, vegetables and livestock that make Florida so unique.  The annual Farm Bureau Spaghetti Supper will be held on Friday, March 1, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
