CHIPLEY — Two Marianna residents were arrested on charges of grand theft following a report of shoplifting at Walmart on Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Chipley.
Arrested were Jarodo Antoni Rhynes, 21, of Marianna, and Devonta Antwan McDuffie, 19, of Marianna.
Police received a call from the Walmart Supercenter at 11:49 a.m. reporting several people had left the store without paying for their merchandise, according to a news release from the Chipley Police Department.
A store employee was able to provide officers with a description of the SUV the suspects left in and a direction it went upon leaving the store. A few minutes later, officers observed the SUV and were able to stop it on Main Street, according to the report.
In the vehicle were four women, two men and a small baby. Officers said they found over 100 items from Walmart in the vehicle. The value of the stolen merchandise totaled over $1,200, according to the report.
The stolen items consisted of children's clothing, some food items, personal hygiene items, toys, and electronics.
Police say more charges are pending in this investigation.
