VERNON — Showing the love and support the Washington County community was quick to give aide to a local student, Andrea Wright, who recently lost her leg to a tragic hunting accident. Vernon High School students and staff showed their support for their classmate with tireless and successful fundraising efforts as Andrea faces multiple surgeries and a long road to recovery.

“Andrea is doing exceptional considering all factors that she is and will be facing,” said Vernon High School Principal Brian Riviere.  “She did get up and walk yesterday; the doctors encouraged her take 50 steps, well Andrea decided to take 200 steps instead. This exceptional demonstration summaries Andrea perfectly.”

Riviere said that they had several fundraisers that week, including their “Camo Heart” picture, which raised $535, a donation of basketball gate at last week's game of $500, donation of concession stand proceeds from the same game of $530, donation of proceeds from the camo ribbon sales by the cheerleaders of $300, donation of a pork plate ROTC fundraiser of $205, collection site totals, individual donations, etc. all summarized for last week's total of nearly $2,700 going directly to Andrea and her family.

“Upcoming are several other school level initiatives and community initiatives,” said Riviere. “One that is already scheduled will be a car wash hosted by the Vernon Fire Dept. at the Tom Thumb site on Hwy 79 in downtown Vernon. The car wash will also include grilling hotdogs and hamburgers and local bands Cypress Spring/Southern Axxent who are merging that day all in an effort to support Andrea and her family.”

The Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Tom Thumb in Vernon.

An account has been set up for Andrea at Community South Bank. The account name is Benefits for Andrea and the account number is 216680.  It was set up for Andrea by her aunt and 100 percent of donations will go to Andrea and her family. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

Additional information on other fundraisers will be provided as they are made available at and on Facebook.
