CHIPLEY - Spurred by the success of the recent Dixie Pre-Majors tournament, the Washington County Tourism Development Council is considering the launch of a softball tournament.
The event, proposed for 2016, would take place on the Chipley High School and Roulhac Middle School fields and generate local revenue from an estimated 12 to 16 visiting teams.
The board also voted to revise its previous requirement to have an officer nominating committee and instead take nominations from the floor when they meet again in regular session September 22. Two seats have been vacant on the board since the beginning of the year. The board is hopeful those will soon be filled but asks anyone interested in serving contact Director Heather Lopez at 638-6013.
In other action, the board:
- Approved to advertise three local events: Seacrest Wolf Preserve's Howl-O-Ween event, set to take place from Oct. 24 to Oct. 26 at the preserve; the Survival Preparedness and Homesteading Expo, schedduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 25 and 26 at the Possum Palace in Wausau and the North Bay Veterans Pow Wow, hosted Nov. 14 through 16 by the North Bay Clan of the Lower Creek Muscogee Tribe at 1560 Lonnie Road in Chipley.
- Agreed to advertise the request for qualifications to take bids on the printing of the brochure for the upcoming geocaching trail.
- Approved the 2014-2015 budget
