CHIPLEY — Marvin Markham, 69, of Sunny Hills won $60,000 on a $3 Monopoly Lottery ticket he purchased in Southport on Jan. 5.

“It was really surprising, I couldn’t believe it,” Markham said of his winnings. He purchased the ticket from the Shell station and convenience store in Southport on Saturday. Markham claimed his prize on Monday.

“I think I have been really blessed,” Markham said. “I don’t think it has fully sunk in yet.”

Markham said he purchases lottery tickets two or three times a week, and in the past the most he had ever won was $10.

The IRS will take 25 percent in taxes, but Markham was not complaining. “That still is a pretty good return on my dollar.”

No big ticket purchases are in Markham’s future plans. “My sister said she knew what I was going to do with the money, and she’s right,” he said. “I stuck it in the bank.  I have everything I need, I have been blessed enough.”
