CHIPLEY — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Chipley man in connection to a burglary at Dollar General in Sunny Hills, according to a news release issued Monday.
On Saturday, July 6, Dollar General store employees reported to the sheriff’s office that after arriving for work that day, they discovered both the store and a trailer located on the property had been broken into and items taken.
Security cameras showed a person leaving the area on foot.
Investigators were assisted by a Northwest Florida Reception Center K-9 tracking team while investigating at the scene.
Investigators also discovered that deputies had performed a building check at approximately 12 a.m. During the check, there were two unoccupied and suspicious vehicles in the parking lot. Investigators used this and additional information to identify a possible suspect — 19-year old Jachob Carl Berry of Chipley.
After arriving at Berry’s home, investigators questioned and were able to get a full confession from the him, according to the sheriff’s office report.
All property taken in the burglaries was recovered.
Berry was arrested on charges of burglary of a structure occupied and burglary of a structure unoccupied.
