BONIFAY - The second inmate who escaped from the Holmes County Jail early this morning was captured shortly after 9 a.m. today.
David Challender, 28, of Vernon, was awaiting trial for murder and was considered highly dangerous by local law enforcement.
"We are relieved and pleased that this fugitive was captured so quickly," said Holmes County Sheriff Tim Brown. "It was good work by area law enforcement."
The Holmes County Sheriff's Office was assisted in the search by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Holmes, Washington, and Jackson Correctional Institutes and their K-9 Units, Jackson County Air Support, the U.S. Marshal's Office, Bay County Sheriff's Office, and Dale County, Ala.'s helicopter units.
Both inmates will face new charges for the escape.
