PONCE de LEON — Ponce de Leon Town Council members presented outgoing Council member Judy Reynolds with a gift during the last meeting she’d be attending on an official capacity on Thursday, Dec. 7.
The new council member will be sworn in at their next regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 3.
Ponce de Leon Town Attorney Lyndia Spears updated the council with their latest endeavors to contact Oshkosh’s attorney.
“I’ve sent them a copy of the contract,” said Spears. “The attorney wants to review the contract and then get back with us.”
The town received a new fire truck using grant money, however, officials recently received letters stating that the town owes money on the truck, said Town Council Administrator Beth Peterson.
The town’s attorney is currently trying to resolve the matter.
In other business, the owner of a local trailer park was present to address concerns with cleanliness, stating that he had recently became more stringent on the tenants about keeping the appearances clean.
Mayor Sheena Hougland reported that she had received several complaints about the lighting on the main intersection in town.
“We went by and it looks the same way it always has — fine,” said Hougland. “We’ll be attending the next Department of Transportation meeting to discuss about lighting at the interstate.”
The council also approved of Christmas bonuses; $75 for administrators, $35 for firefighters and $20 to water and sewer employees.
“We’re sticking to the same as we agreed on last year,” said Peterson.
Hougland announced that peewee basketball practice had started that week and games will begin in January. If anyone is interested in joining, then they should contact the Town Hall at 836-4361.
It was also announced that the annual gift giving to the town’s needy children would be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Ponce de Leon Town Hall.
