CHIPLEY — Washington County Planning Commissioner Tonya Pippin announced her resignation from the commission on Tuesday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I render my resignation from the Washington County Planning Commission, effective May 8, “ Pippin said.  “After a great deal of analysis, I have come to the conclusion that time commitments to my business will not allow me to continue to serve on this board.”

Pippin joined the commission in 2003, and has served as chairwoman since June 2010. She was vice chairwoman from May 2008 to June 2010, she said.

“With the many changes needed to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code, serving on this board will require more time and effort in the months and years to come,” Pippin said.  “June 2013 will mark 10 years of my service to the Washington County Planning Commission so I feel that it is an appropriate time for me to vacate my position.”

Pippin thanked the Board of County Commissioners for their support and input during her tenure on the planning commission.

“I have recently been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the Chipola College Foundation,” Pippin said. “I am a founding board member of the Washington County Arts Council and I serve as a mentor with the Take Stock in Children Program, so my plate is full with other community service activities on top of the business opportunities before me. “

Tuesday was also Roger Hagan’s first meeting as a newly minted planning commissioner. Hagan’s appointment to the county planning commission was approved by the Board of County Commissioners during the Feb. 28 BOCC meeting.
