One arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop

CHIPLEY — Chipley Police Department reported the arrest of Charles William Shumaker during a traffic stop on Jan. 28.

According to the report, an officer with the Chipley Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a Toyota truck after observing a traffic violation committed by the vehicle and during the course of the traffic stop it was determined the driver, Shumaker, had a suspended driver license. 

A search of the vehicle revealed an amount of methamphetamine (ICE), as well as, syringes, cut straws, and a spoon which had been concealed within a small box on the driver side of the toolbox and Shumaker was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license, knowingly, according to the report.

“The use of methamphetamine represents a significant threat to our community and families,” said Chief Kevin Crews. “The Chipley Police Department remains dedicated to the removal of these drugs and those who choose to traffic these drugs through our community. I encourage anyone with any information regarding any illegal activity to report these activities to the Chipley Police Department at 638-6310 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers of Washington county at 638-TIPS."
