CHIPLEY — Joe Taylor was sworn in as the new Washington County School District superintendent on Tuesday.

Taylor replaces Dr. Sandra Cook, who lost to Taylor in the August primary election. Taylor, a Republican, went on to defeat Democratic contender Pat Aukema Dickson for the office.

New school board member Milton Brown, representing District 3, was also sworn in on Tuesday. Brown narrowly defeated incumbent Pam Cates in the primary.

District 2 Board member Wayne Saunders, who was uncontested in the election, was also sworn back into his position.

In the reorganizational meeting, board member Terry Ellis was elected to serve as board chairman, and Susan Roberts was chosen vice chairman.

“Thank you for your confidence in me,” Ellis said.

The board voted to keep the meeting time and date the same in the coming year — the school board meets at 5 p.m. on the second Monday of the month.
