CHIPLEY - Charles Kent has formally announced his candidacy for the District 2 Washington County Board of County Commissioners seat.
Kent currently resides on his family's cattle farm in northwest Washington County, helping oversee its daily operations, but he is a funeral home director by trade.
Licensed since 1991, Kent received his degree from the Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta. He has overseen funeral home operations in Northwest Florida and Alabama since the age of 21, both building funeral homes from the ground up and revitalizing struggling establishments to help them once again thrive.
He also received his correctional officer certification from Washington-Holmes Technical Center and worked six years collectively at Washington and Holmes Correctional facilities.
Kent says it's this experience that gives him the business know-how to look out for the county's bottom line while serving the needs of the community with interest and compassion.
"It seems that on all levels of government, including here at home, leaders have distanced themselves from the people who elected them," said Kent. "Good government should serve each citizen fairly and efficiently. I want to bring county government back to serving each citizen. I've been out visiting with folks and appreciate the hospitality and support I've been shown. I know I haven't been able to see everyone, but I look forward to visiting anyone I've missed in the near future and listen to their ideas and concerns about the future of Washington County."
Kent and his wife, Becky, have been married for 15 years.
