BONIFAY — On Thursday, as many as 70 bicycles and nearly 100 toys were delivered to the Holmes County Fairground. This year the Holmes CI Vocational Automotive Collision and Refinishing Class and the Carpentry shop worked toward preparing for this year’s Toys for Tots.
The inmates in the Vocational Automotive Collision and Refinishing class and the Carpentry shop have work tirelessly preparing the bicycles and toys to be distributed to the area’s needy children administered by the Tri-County Community Council.
Under the experienced supervision of auto body teacher Buddy Shumaker, inmates restored and refinished 70 plus bicycles. Under Officer D. Meeks, inmates in the cabinet shop have built 30 rocking dolphins, 12 pull along trains, 5 piggy banks, 12 tic TAC toe boards, 25 jewelry boxes, 11 chairs, and 3 tables.
Community involvement has been paramount. We have received assistance from the Bonifay Fire Department and the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce. Through the efforts of many, the Toys for Tots has helped spread Christmas cheer. Giving to others especially to help bring joy to children has given the inmates in auto body and the cabinet shop an opportunity to feel good this Christmas.
