CHIPLEY - Washington County residents with disabilities will soon have more housing options, thanks to a new 15-unit apartment complex planned for completion by the end of the year.

Goodwill Industries-Big Bend, Inc. (GIBB) will hold groundbreaking ceremonies at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the construction site, which is located behind Washington Square Shopping Center at 1411 Washington Square Drivein Chipley.

"Similar Goodwill villages exist in Tallahassee, Panama City Beach, Marianna, Perry and Springfield," said Courtney Davidson, Public Relations Associate for GIBB. "The apartments and facilities will be completely wheelchair accessible, including the laundry room and community room."

There is currently no waiting list for the apartment complex, which will be called GIBB Chipley Village. GIBB will advertise the anticipated occupancy date and begin accepting applications a few months before the project is complete.

“These apartments will provide dignity and positive encouragements for those who need a helping hand but still want to be independent,” said GIBB President and CEO Fred Shelfer. “These Goodwill units will allow our residents to stay in Chipley, the town they love, close to family and friends.”
