WASHINGTON COUNTY - The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will host a series of meetings relating to projects on State Road 79 and Interstate 10.
The public information meeting on SR 79 is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Vernon Community Center, located at 2808 Yellow Jacket Drive, in Vernon.
The meeting will be an open house format with no formal presentation, but FDOT representatives will be present to explain proposed improvements, answer questions, and receive comments.
Maps, drawings, and other information will be on display for the project, which is scheduled to begin in the fall.
This is Phase D of the SR 79 design-build project and will cover a distance of about 6.4 miles from Reedy Branch Bridge to Court St. in Vernon.
Meetings are also planned for final recommendation on the I-10 Master Plan.
FDOT has scheduled two final recommendation meetings concerning the update to the I-10 Master Plan for Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Washington and Jackson counties. The first meeting was held Thursday, July 31 at the Crestview Community Center in Crestview. The second meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 7, in the First Baptist Church Youth Building, located at1300 South Boulevard, Chipley. There will be brief presentation at 5:45 p.m.
"The purpose of the Interstate Master Plan is to develop an integrated transportation system that is economically efficient, environmentally sound, and moves people and goods in an energy-efficient manner," said FDOT rep Tanya Branton. "The plan will identify and recommend mobility enhancement alternatives that serve high speed, high volume travel, including long trips and regional commerce as well as outline a process of protecting the right-of-way necessary to accommodate future needs. Your involvement in the master planning effort will help to shape I-10 in this part of the state for decades to come."
