ESTO — The Town of Esto prepares for the 3rd Annual Two Toe Tom Festival to be held from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on April 12 at John W. Clark Park in Esto.

“The reason why we started the Two Toe Tom Festival back up is in memory of all our town’s elders,” said Event Coordinator and Esto Town Council member Darlene Madden. “The elders wanted something for the community to do together, no matter if they’re young, old, individually or as a family.”

The first Two Toe Tom Festival was held every year between 1987 and 2001 and then in 2012 the festival was revived as an annual event.

Frances Kirkland was involved with the first Two Toe Tom Festival held on Sept. 5, 1987 and would later become a chair member of the Two Toe Tom Festival committee.

“The reason why we started it was because we needed something to bring the community together, for something for both young and old to participate in and enjoy as a community,” said Kirkland. “It also helped raise money to help repair the senior citizen’s building. When E.W. Carswell published the history of the Town of Esto and included the legend of Two Toe Tom we knew we had something unique to our area and special to our community.”

Another individual that was vital to the success of the Two Toe Tom Festival was Annie Laura Williams Kidd, said Kirkland.

She explained that Kidd was a tireless supporter of the festival and was responsible for most of the community getting involved through her constant community efforts and promotions of the event.
