CHIPLEY — The Washington County School Board was also introduced to the district’s nominee for the Sunshine State Scholar, Richard Wayne Davenport, on Monday night. Davenport, a junior, will attend a statewide convention with the rest of the state’s 67 Sunshine State Scholars in February.
Davenport is a student in the Chipley High School engineering program.
The Sunshine State Scholars program recognizes Florida's top STEM students and introduces them to the vast postsecondary and career opportunities available right here in their home state, according to the website, floridaeducationfoundation.org. The 2-day program is scheduled for Feb 21 and Feb 22 at the Doubletree Hotel at the entrance to Universal Orlando.
“We’re proud to have you representing Washington County,” said board chairman Terry Ellis. Too many students want to do just the minimum amount of work required, Ellis said. “I commend you for your willingness to push yourself.”
