The board agreed with Parish’s request to hold a 30-minute workshop before every morning meeting of the Board of County Commissioners where they could discuss items with department heads.

“It’s just an organizational advantage we don’t usually have,” said Parish. “We’ll try it for a few months and if it doesn’t work out we’ll move it to once a quarter.”

The first workshop is set for 8 a.m. on Sept. 10 before the regularly scheduled meeting at 9 a.m.

The commissioners agreed to hold a budget workshop during the week to finalize the budget.

Merchant reminded the board that there is still an opportunity to acquire milled asphalt at no cost to the county; the only cost would be the county going and retrieving it.

Parish suggested they hire someone to go and retrieve the milled asphalt and Goodman suggested that since the county’s employees didn’t work on Fridays then they should use employees on a Friday to retrieve it.

“It just seems that paying our men overtime would be cheaper than hiring a company,” said Goodman.
