Cook wins re-election as Vernon's Mayor

Only about ten percent of the City of Vernon's registered voters turned out for today's municipal election with 128 voters casting ballots.

Mayor Michelle Cook received 68 votes to defeat challengers John Hawkins, Jr. and David Shipes, Jr., who earned 39 and 21 votes respectively.

Candidates winning City Council seats were Gwendolyn March with 87 votes; Gary Owens with 84 votes and Joey Brock with 78. Tray Hawkins lost his bid for re-election, receiving only 74 votes.
