Kid Safety and Fun Expo
CHIPLEY — MPE and H&H will sponsor a Free Kid Safety and Fun Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 23 at Wal-Mart in Chipley. The Easter bunny will be making appearances at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. There will be baby twin deer at the expo and much more.
Washington County Libraries to be Closed
WASHINGTON COUNTY — All Washington County Public Library branches will be closed on Good Friday March 29. All branches will reopen for regular hours on April 1.
The Early Learning Coalition Hosts Local VPK Registration
The Early Learning Coalition of Northwest Florida will be holding Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) registration for families in Holmes and Washington counties at their office from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, April 5. The coalition office is located at 680 2nd Street, Chipley, in the Old Chipley High School building.
To be eligible for VPK, children must turn four on or before Sept. 1, and they must live in Florida. When enrolling for VPK, parents will need to bring proof of child’s age and proof of Florida residency. Typical examples for each are: for proof of age a Birth Certificate, Passport or Military ID
For proof of residency Driver’s License, Utility Bill (must show street address), Residential rental agreement, FL Vehicle Registration Card, or pay stub.
“The VPK program is a great way to help prepare children to be successful in school and in life,” said Lynne Eldridge, Executive Director for the Early Learning Coalition of Northwest Florida. “Parents have many different quality programs to choose from when looking to enroll their child in VPK.”

Two-Toe Tom Festival Beauty Pageant
ESTO — The Two-Toe Tom Festival Beauty Pageant will be held on April 5 and 6, at the Graceville Civic Center. The entry fee is $50 with all proceeds going to the Two-Toe Tom Festival celebration. Contestants may participate in photogenic for an additional $10. This is an open pageant. Application deadlines for the pageant are March 22. Participants must be between the ages of Zero and 20. Child Find Pre-K Screening offered
CHIPLEY — Washington County School District and FDLRS/PAEC co-sponsor Child Find Pre-K screenings to identify children with disabilities and/or special needs. Eligible children must be: ages 3 to 4 years old, suspected of having a disability, and not enrolled in public school.
Each child is screened in the areas of vision, hearing, speech, language, and overall development. Screening appointments are scheduled every month in each county.
The parent or legal guardian must provide permission for the child to participate in the screening.
Screenings are scheduled by appointment only by calling the Child Find office at 638-6131 ext. 2310 or toll free 1-873-877-7232 ext. 2310. This office serves Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Liberty, Walton, and Washington Counties.
Washington County Kindergarten Registration
Kate M. Smith and Vernon Elementary School will begin Kindergarten Registration will be held on April 8, for the 2013-2014 school year. You may stop by the school office to pick up a registration packet. All requirements for registration will be attached to the packet. All forms and proper documentation must be completed for child to be registered. Children must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2013. You must provide: Certified Birth Certificate (not hospital copy), Social Security card, Florida immunization record (can be obtained at location shots were received), Florida physical (must be dated within one year of first day of school) and proof of residency in Washington County.
Washington County Council on Aging will be holding their annual Senior Exp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 10 at the Washington County Agricultural Center. There will be food, and a grand prize drawing. Information will be handed out by hospitals, home health agencies, hospice agencies, state SHINE program, nursing home, funeral home pre-need, Florida telecommunication, the Washing Holmes Vo-Tech and many more.
Spring Plant Sale
DOTHAN, ALA. — The Wiregrass Master Gardener Association will be holding its annual Spring Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 12 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 13. The sale will be held in the master gardener nursery at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens located on Headland Avenue in Dothan, Ala. Plants to be included are: annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, ground covers, vines and ornamental grasses, trees shrubs, bulbs, house and tropical plants and succulents. The Association will provide soil pH testing, kits for soil analysis, and fire ant control information.
Admission to the sale and the gardens is free and we encourage you to tour the beautiful gardens while at the sale. Our plants are lovingly grown by master gardeners and reasonable priced. Purchase you plants from the gardens of the masters and receive knowledgeable planting information.

Second Annual Two Toe Tom Festival
ESTO — The Second Annual Two Toe Tom festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 13 at John W. Clark Park in Esto. There will be a Car and Truck Show on the day of the even with a 50/50 drawing and door prizes at 2 p.m. Registration for the Car and Truck Show will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. the cost to enter the show is $15 per vehicle. A Horseshoe Tournament will begin at 10 a.m. with a 60/40 split. The cost to enter the tournament will be $20 per team.
There will be concerts through out the day by The Springs, Ron French (All Heart Music), Southern Chain Gang and Big and Loud. There will also be a dunking booth, a fire truck exhibit, cakewalk, face painting and vendors selling wood art, children’s cloths, hand painted items, candles, arts and crafts, food and much more.
