CHIPLEY — A Chipley woman was arrested on charges of felony child neglect after her child was treated for burns on Jan. 15, according to a Chipley Police report.
Kari Miranda Sasser of Chipley was arrested in connection with a charge of felony child neglect on Thursday, Jan. 31, by Chipley Police.
On Jan. 28, the Chipley Police Department opened an investigation involving child neglect. The case was brought to the department’s attention by the Department of Children and Family Services.
The investigation showed that between the dates of Jan. 1 and Jan. 12, Sasser and her one-year-old child had visited Panama City Beach. Sasser stated that after returning from the beach they visited a friend in Chipley, where the child was accidently burned with hot grease while, according to the police report. The burn was on the child’s head and left back shoulder area.
Sasser treated the child at home for the burns. On Jan. 15, the child’s father received the child from Sasser and took the child to the doctor for treatment of the burns.
On Jan. 16, the child was again seen by the doctor. The child was diagnosed with strep and pink eye in addition to the severe burns, according to the report.
On Jan. 31, Sasser was booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of felony child neglect.
