CHIPLEY — A Washington County School District bus was rear-ended by a station wagon Wednesday afternoon, sending the car’s driver and one child to the hospital, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Beauregard Lane Shideler, 31, of Bonifay was taken to Bay Medical Center for treatment after his 2002 Ford Taurus station wagon struck the left rear portion of a stopped 2011 Bluebird THMS school bus on Kirkland Road. Shideler’s injuries were listed as serious.
A six-year old was taken to Northwest Florida Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. There were 15 children on the bus at the time of the accident.
The Ford was wedged underneath the rear of the bus, raising the left side rear tires of the bus, according to the report.
The Ford ignited and flames spread to both vehicles, but residents on the scene were able to extinguish the fire, according to the report.
Damage to the bus was estimated at $15,000.
Shideler was charged with driving on a suspended license, failure to use due care, no proof of insurance and no seatbelt usage, according to the report.
