BONIFAY — Roger Brooks was named the 2012 J. Harvey Etheridge Good Will Ambassador Thursday night at the Bonifay Kiwanis Club Appreciation Banquet, held at the Holmes County Ag Center.

"I consider this a tremendous honor," Brooks said, and told of how a cassette recording made for him by Mr. Etheridge was one of his prized possessions. The recording was made when Brooks was first named postmaster in 1985.

After 43 years of service, Bonifay Postmaster Roger Brooks retired on July 31.

According to Brooks, he began his career as a custodian at the Bonifay office during the summer shortly after graduating high school.

Two years later he was appointed as a letter carrier and then was promoted to Supervisor of Customer Service shortly after.

Brooks said that during his time as Supervisor he had the privilege to work in many post offices in the panhandle of Florida, including Blountstown, Caryville, Graceville, Panama City and included many offices in both North and South Florida and South Georgia.

Brooks also served as on the Kiwanis Club Board of Directors Class of 2010-11.
