Bonifay man dies after crashing log truck

MALONE - A Bonifay man, Clyde P. Ellis, 52, died on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18 after the log truck he was driving collided with a utility pole on State Road 2 east of State Road 71.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ellis was driving a loaded commercial motor vehicle log truck west on State Road 2 through Malone when the vehicle drove through the intersection of 11th Street, drifted right and entered the south shoulder of State Road 2.

The vehicle then collided with a utility pole, a traffic information sign and overturned onto its right side before coming to a rest facing east, overturned on its right side in the ditch south of State Road 2.

Ellis was pronounced dead at the scene by District 14 Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the report, he was also not wearing his seatbelt and results are still pending as to if alcohol was involved.
