Lewis gets life for murder of child

Amanda Lewis of Esto was sentenced to life in prison Monday afternoon. Lewis was given the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder of her daughter, Adrianna Elaine Hutto, in an above-ground swimming pool at 3343 1st Avenue South in Esto on Aug. 8, 2007.

Lewis was convicted earlier this month of murder and aggravated child abuse. Much of the case rested on the testimony of Lewis' son, A.J. Hutto, and forensic evidence. Public Defender Walter Lewis filed a motion for a new trial prior to sentencing, but the motion was denied by Circuit Judge Allen Register.

Register then sentenced Lewis to life for the murder. There are just two sentences for first-degree murder, life in prison and the death penalty. The prosecution did not seek the death penalty. In addition, Register sentenced Lewis to 30 years to run consecutively for the child abuse conviction

My heart goes out to little AJ. Talk about being put on a guilt trip! Does the state realize just what they have done to this little boy? Whether or not his mother was guilty, he will also blame himself for sending her to prison. Children never recover from being made to feel guilty, most times self imposed. Does anyone know if he went to family or strangers to live? That concerns me also.

I think she did kill this little girl. I found it a little odd that she also had a 16 month old son that died in 1998 "while she was in the shower". She got away with that one, I am glad she did not get away with this one.

the loss of a child is by far the greatest loss of all, and to be taken by the one who brought the child into the world is by far the sickest crime of all. she will recieve her best punishment when she stands before GOD, and let us hope that is soon.

well it was more then the sons testmory that put her in prison there was forensic evidence to back up what the son was saying even if his story was not consisted you try to put yourself in a 6years place in front of all these poeple and the person who killed your sister and question that was trying to make you make a mistake our prayers are with him she will reep what she sows the higher power will take over now hopefully she will ask for forgiveness so she can make it to heaven but god is the only one that can help her now so she better fine him. the ladies in prison will make her see what she put her daughter though everyday

Again, anyone without a conscience can pass a lie detector test. Anyone who dunks a kid, chases her down after she runs to the park and brings her back for another dunking/drowning isn't too worried about lying. If lying doesnt bother you, the test thinks you are telling the truth.

I think she should have been given the death penalty and it carried out the same way she killed her daughter you have children to love and cherish not drown in a pool in your back yard she deserves what she gets in court and in prison and i hope her prison mates find out what she is in for and then it will be hard time for her and she deserves every bit of it sorry if some do not agree with me

Just another case of justice for some and mercy for most. I still do not believe Amanda killed her daughter. And, if her 6 year old son can be a witness who obviously did not know what he was saying, example, Momma drowned her twice that day, once before going to the park and once after. I feel he cannot distinguish the difference between ducking and drowning, what on earth is wrong with presenting the lie detector test that she PASSED!
