One busted in WC contraband case
As a result of a joint effort by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Corrections, Mildred Damaris Torres, a 34-year-old white female, was taken into custody while visiting an inmate at the Washington County Correctional Institution.
Torres, who resides at 3282 Pine Valley Road in Columbus, OH, was found in possession of approximately four grams of heroin packaged in 30 individual packages, referred to as hits, with a prison value of approximately $250 - $500 per hit and under 20 grams of marijuana. She was charged with trafficking heroin, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and smuggling contraband into a detention facility.
Officers received information that Torres would be bringing contraband into the prison and delivering it to an inmate housed at Washington CI. Torres was taken into custody shortly after arriving for visitation. Torres was transported to the Washington County Jail where she is being held on a $41,000 bond.
“Whenever information can flow so efficiently between agencies, our ability to foil this kind of illegal activity improves exponentially,” says Sheriff Bobby Haddock. “Our investigators did an exceptional job on this case and we have to credit the Department of Corrections Inspectors for their invaluable work and information which was key to getting this arrest. Heroin is extremely rare in this part of the country, while it is much more prevalent in the north. For many local law enforcement officers, this was a first-time heroin bust.”
