A Marianna man faces multiple charges following a one-vehicle wreck Saturday at about 12:49 a.m. in Calhoun County

Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 1997 Chevy pickup driven by Handsford Eugene Griffis was traveling Westbound on SR 20 at KB Jones Rd. , when according to Griffis he and his passenger, Jerry Lee Sullivan of Grand Ridge, decided to turn around and head back Eastbound to Marianna.

Griffis was attempting to turn around on SR 20 when he said Sullivan opened the passenger side door of the 1997 Chevrolet pick-up he was riding in, while it was still moving, in an attempt to check on his dog riding in the bed of the truck. As a result, Sullivan fell out of the vehicle onto the South paved shoulder.

The right rear tire of the truck traveled over the head of Sullivan. He was air lifted by AirHeart helicopter to Bay Medical Center in critical
condition. Both Griffis and Sullivan were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Griffis has been charged with DUI, DUI serious bodily injury and DUI refusal to submit to breath test.
