Latest Update on Tropical Storm Gaston and Hermine

Florida Division of Emergency Management

At 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Tropical Storm Hermine weakened into a tropical depression and the last National Hurricane Center forecast advisory was issued at 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The remnants of Hermine will move north for about the next 12 hours and then northeast through the end of the week as it gets steered by a frontal system over the Central U.S.

Hermine is not expected to impact Florida.

The remnants of Gaston, located just south of the Dominican Republic, remain very disorganized and re-generation is no longer expected. The National Hurricane Center has now placed a 0% chance that Gaston will re-intensify into a tropical system.

Computer models continue to point Gaston west across the Caribbean Sea the remainder of this week, possibly moving inland over the Yucatan Peninsula late this weekend.

Regardless of development, the remnants of Gaston could bring periods of heavy rain to Hispaniola through the next 48 hours.

The tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic near the western coast of Africa is increasing in thunderstorm activity and getting better organized. Environmental conditions are expected to become more conducive for development and there is now a 70 percent chance of this wave developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next 2 days. The next name on the list is Igor.
