Correctional officer arrested on dope charges
As a result of a joint effort by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington Correctional Institution, Correctional Officer Ivan Duke Peters, 34, was taken into custody while on duty on the evening of Saturday, May 10 at the Washington County Correctional Institution, according to a news release from Washington County Sheriff's Office. Peters was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver, unlawful compensation, and smuggling contraband into a detention facility.
Officers received information that Peters had been bringing contraband into the prison in return for cash from inmates housed at Washington CI. Peters was taken into custody shortly after arriving for his shift.
“I would like to praise the hard work by officers at both Washington CI, as well as the investigators from our office while working this case,” states Sheriff Bobby Haddock. “There were many man hours put into shutting down this illegal operation and the partnership between agencies ensured that the goal was achieved.”
Additional arrests and charges are expected.
