HC BOCC has first reading for mobile home amendment

Holmes County Board of County Commissioners had its first reading of an amendment to the county’s land use regulations for mobile homes. Action took place at the Board regular meeting on Tuesday, April 29.

Provisions include:
•All state permits must be obtained before installing a home.
•All homes installed in a mobile home park must be HUD Wind Zone II or III certified.
•Applications for mobile home parks must have a site plan prepared by a registered land surveyor or engineer.
There are also provisions for roadways within mobile home parks, water and sewage and waste disposal.

The Board also approved a recommendation from the Jail Control Board to obtain a new security system for the county jail. Jail Administrator Capt. Greg Yancey said the electronics for the system are worn out and spare parts are very hard to find. The Board approved accepting a low bid of $36,489.60 for a new system.

The Board also approved building a new pavilion at the recycling center to store used oil under, as well as a concrete pad for haz-mat collected every year during amnesty. The next recycling grant is on the governor’s desk.

In other business the Board:

•Decided not to participate in an erosion control program due to the high cost of the local matches. The roads and other areas that could have qualified under this program would be on a list for local mitigation if FEMA money is available in the future.

•Approved a resolution supporting myfloridamilitary.com, an initiative from Opportunity Florida to provide an online clearing house for veterans looking for employment, and for employers interested in employing veterans. Holmes County uses veterans’ preference in hiring.

•Heard a presentation about developing regulations for animal shelters and rescue centers, and the supporters were told to get with County Attorney Brandon Young and Wood on the issue. Wood said that developing a dangerous animal law would be a realistic first step in developing an animal control ordinance, with a leash law and other measures following.

•Heard that an agriculture tourism seminar would be held May 22 at the Holmes County Ag Center, time to be announced.
