Planning Commission meeting includes hearing on Florida Landing

CHIPLEY - Washington County Planning Department will hold a Planning Commission meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. in the County Annex meeting room, 1331 South Blvd. in Chipley.

The largest development on the agenda is the public hearing on large scale land use change and text amendment to the county Comprehensive Plan for the mixed-use Florida Landings planned unit development, that consists of 1.883 acres located on the east and west sides of Buckhorn Blvd, approximately three miles west of US 231 in the southeastern corner of Washington County.

Due to its size Florida Landings is a development of regional impact as it has more than 625 residential units planned. Housing densities range from 3.5 to 17 units per acre depending on type of housing. The plan includes space for a 25-acre school site, and there are 40 acres worth of gopher tortoise areas. Proposed build-out time frame is 10 years.

•Public hearing on amendment of the Adopted Washington County Interlocal Agreement for Public Schools Facility Planning.  The Public School Facilities Element is under review by the Department of Community Affairs.

•Public hearing on large-scale land use change to correct Public/Semi-public to Recreation and Agriculture/Silviculture – Washington County Planning Office. An observation tower has been removed from a one-acre parcel and the county owns a six-acre plus parcel that is used as a community center.

•Variance to sell less than 4.5 acres – Mark and Hannah Brock – Locke Lane. Applicant is seeking variance to sell approximately 2.175 acres. Current land use is Agriculture/Silviculture.

•Preliminary plat approval of a subdivision – Cypress Bay at New Hope – R&S Investments of Destin – GPI Southeast, Inc. Development of 90.98-acre parcel on the south side of Millers Ferry Road (CR284).

•Request for development order extension for preciously approved subdivision – Blue Springs – Cliff Knauer – South end of Fair Haven Drive.

The next Board of County Commissioners meeting for public hearings is scheduled for Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. The next Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. For more information, call 415-5093.
