13-year-old arrested in Holmes County bomb threat, manufacturing case

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and Bonifay Police Department will both have charges stemming from a joint investigation that was initiated earlier this afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a bomb threat made by a thirteen-year-old male student attending the Graduation Assistance Program (GAP). School officials notified law enforcement after finding diagrams of potential bombs or destructive devices in the student’s locker. The student’s parents were contacted and allowed a search of their residence.

The search led to the discovery of some materials used in the manufacture of explosive devices. The student is facing two second degree felony charges of attempting to make or discharge a destructive device (F.S.S. 790.161) and threat to place or discharge a destructive device (F.S.S. 790.162).

Sheriff Dennis Lee would like to thank the Bonifay Police Department and the Federal Department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms for their assistance in the investigation.

More information in Wednesday's paper.
