Obama-Biden HQ opened in Chipley
CHIPLEY – The Panhandle-wide Obama-Biden tour came to Chipley Monday, with about 150 people on hand to open a presidential campaign headquarters.
Former Florida Governor and Senator Bob Graham, former Mississippi Governor and Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ray Mabus, and former South Carolina Governor Jimmy Hodges were guest speakers to open the headquarters at 733 2nd Street.
Naomi Melvin provided the brick house that was filled with Obama-Biden posters and T-shirts, refreshments and campaign workers as county Democratic Chairperson Mikey Burch and crew organized the event.
Local candidates present included Supervisor of Elections Carol Finch Griffin, Mike Park for superintendent of schools, John Harmon and Charles Brock for Board of County Commissioners, and Johnny McDaniel for state representative.
“36 days” was written on the eraser board in the HQ and that was how many days were left in the election as of Monday. Graham also said the number “10” was important, and gave out “homework assignments” for 3-10s:
•Oct. 6 is end of registration and Graham urged each person to find 10 people and get them registered.
•There are about six weeks until the election and Graham asked those present to spend 10 hours helping elect Democrats.
•Raise or donate $10 to the party.
“With that we can win,” Graham said.
Mabus called the crowd in Chipley Obama’s “core constituency, white guys from the deep South.”
“We’re going to win the deep South, he said. “We simply can’t stand four more years of what we have had the last four years.”
Hodges said that a mere handful of votes made a difference in Florida in the 2000 election, “and that could make a difference in the this election.”
“This election could well turn in Florida and Florida could well turn in small communities like this.”
An organizational meeting will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Obama headquarters. For information contact Ira Burch at 638-4003 or Mikey Burch at WCDEC@wmconnect.co

Democrats rally for votes in Chipley

CHIPLEY – Democrats held a political rally Saturday at the CWA Union Hall Saturday to give local candidates a chance to meet the public, and to to organize teams to promote the candidacy of Barak Obama and Joe Biden, and to ensure a good turnout for Monday’s grand opening of the Obama presidential field office on 2nd Street.
Democratic parties running in upcoming elections were invited to speak at the rally.
Running for School Superintendent, Mike Park encouraged his fellow Democrats to get “geared up” for the up-coming presidential elections.
“We’ve been gaining stupendous momentum on this end of the county,” said Park. “I feel if we can keep this drive and fire-up all of our fellow Democrats to vote, we will win.”
Running for reelection as Supervisor of Elections, Carol Griffin, said that the rumors going around about turning away voters whose Social Security numbers or driver’s license numbers don’t match with their voter registration is completely false.
“We will never turn anyone away from voting,” said Griffin. “All that will happen is that we’ll give you a pending ballot and that’s effective as soon as everything is sorted out.”
She said problems with security has made the requirements for voting higher, one of which was a woman had sent in for an absentee ballot for her dog and because the requirements were lax, it was counted.
Another rumor was that voters wearing their party’s T-shirts, hats or buttons weren’t allowed in to vote. Griffin said this was also untrue and that the rules were anything considered to be worn on the body was allowed.
“I also want to add that voters can vote for any and all districts as long as it’s within your county,” she said. “I hope that I will represent our party well and I want to hear from anyone who might have any questions, comments or concerns.”
Running for reelection for Clerk of Court, Linda Cook said that she’s been in the position since 1996 and has seen the county develop well over the years.
Running for County Commission District 5, John Harmon, said that he hopes the Democratic Party will continue to have the drive and dedication it does now and hopes to have even more support in the future.
Running for District 3 as a non-partisan candidate school board candidate, Pam Cates said for voters to remember one important detail when voting. “If you remember only one thing about what I’m saying today,” said Cates. “Let it be ‘please, remember to flip the ballot over and place your vote in the bottom left hand corner.” The Washington County ballots are double sided, having candidates to vote for on both sides.
Washington County DEC Chair, Mikey Burch thanked everyone for their dedication and diligence about this year’s campaign.
“The choice we make in November will decide the world our children will have to live in,” said Burch. “And remember, that no matter how rich or how poor you are, that it’s the privilege to vote that makes us all equals.”
She also said that Obama signs have been going missing and she’ll be looking into putting GPS chips into the next batch of signs bought.
“Stealing is one of those characteristics that I can’t tolerate about people and if you take something that doesn’t belong to you, that is considered stealing,” she said. “All I can say is if and when we catch whomever is doing this, we will be prosecuting.”

| If ALL white people that dont vote for Obama are racist are ALL men that dont vote for the McCain Palin ticket sexist? People that are making this about race are tearing our country apart. Why does it matter what color Obama is? I have been a Republican for 24 years and in the past I have voted for Democrats for President, Clinton the first time, Al Gore another time but I will not vote for Obama because I feel that he is a hate mongerer and I do not approve of that from ANYONE. Another thing, Obama insulted my intelligence when he said that he had sat in Rev. Wrights church for 20 years and never heard him preach hate. I have only known about him for 8 months or so and have heard him preach it several times. Democrats keep saying that Obamas character doesnt matter and all I have to say to that is I hope you are happy with what you get. Remember you asked for it. |

| We must all realize that judging and christianity do not go hand in hand. It is sad that in 2008 we prefer the content of people character against the fact that a Harvard Graduate still cannot be President. Lets remember "thou shall not covenant thou neighbor house." So we must keep in mind will in war what have we accomplish accept some hurt families. Thank America for Choice. |

| Actually I am a democrat. I am not sure why believing in the bible is witch craft. It is the truth. I would rather be dirt poor than living in nation with no moral values. I am not a racist, but I am against abortion, gay rights, big government and yes, I support the troops wherever they are. I could go on, but obviously you obama lovers are blinded. God bless you and I will be praying for you all. |

| Christian, you as well will benefit from the democratic ticket. If you don't have a jo that pays you over a million a year, then you are crazy to vote for McCain. I don't believe someone from an area such as this one can even vote for such mess. Palin is a mess and she a dum dum. Can't answer questions. Pastor believes in
witch craft. If any one in here that should be a republican, it is me. I make a to of money. That is because I work like crazy. I am also well educated. |

| Half of you don't know anything about Obama. Yes, all of you in here as so called Republicans don't even belong in the party. You are voting for McCain because you are still a racist and you have a hard time with black people. Remember, God doesn't divide people when it comes to race. How are you going to make it into Heaven. White, black, blue and green will be there. If you continue to be a racist because you hate a certain people, then you have a big problem.
You would rather suffer than vote for a black man. Keep carrying that lunch bucket making that six bucks an hour. It will be lower than that if McCain gets in the office. If the democrats get it, then you will be able to work. Republicans do not produce jobs, Clinton had twenty seven million and under bush, he lost twenty two million. keep living poor. |

| I will not stoop to name calling as some on here have done, but I will tell you that I am a very proud American.
My ancestors landed in Mass. 40 years after the Pilgrims. I am a senior citizen and I have seen candidates come and go. I find no fault with Barack Obama and I am a proud supporter of him and the Democratic Party. |

| Just a thought, you are right on the money. Also, I believe that you should have served in the miltary, to run for the presidency. If he wins, obama will be the commander and chief with no clue what that really means. This guy hates what America stands for. He is in bed with terrorist, mob, you name it. How can this guy be trusted? Most people that are voting for him, are voting for him because he is black or he is a democrat, not because of the issues. This is insane that he has gotten this far with almost no good experience. |

| It seems to me that those calling people redneck, narrow minded thinkers and racists have to resort to name calling to try to support Obama. They are unable to actually state issues or facts to support their position. It is really funny to me that Democrats want to label someone a racist just because that person has a different opinion. The liberals need to learn to accept the freedoms of living in the USA entitle us to vote for who we believe to be the best candidate. To spout hate towards others that have different beliefs is just un-American and terribly sad. |

| Let me get this straight, AMY and FEED UP. By the way, can't you spell fed? Because I have a different opinion, don't agree with increased taxes, don't want a bigger government, denounce abortion and same sex marriage, want my President free from ties to terrorists, ACORN and not as liberal as Barack Obama, I am a redneck? Thank God there are people out there all of this country that can have a different opinion and can be called a free thinker everywhere else without being called names. Do you actually know what a redneck is? You are showing your narrow mindedness. I guess being called a redneck is better than showing yourself to be an idiot. |

| American, let me take that one step further. Why don't all of the registered democrats who will vote for McCain BECAUSE of Obama's morals, politics, etc. show up at the polls and vote out all of those people pushing him at your new Obama Biden Headquarters. Nothing speaks quite like the ballot box. |

| Lets get a few facts straight. Obama is not an African American and I will not disgrace my Black American nieghbors and friends by by giving him that title. He is Arab the only slavery he has in his background is those his ancestors sold and used. Everyone he claims to have given him his start is either a true racist or a domestic terroist. His fundamental beliefs are those of a muslim terroist. There are a few things you need to remember on the 4th when you go to vote. Do not vote to anyone just because they of your party and those that support him are also against what you believe. Look at those even on the local level running for office that showed up for and support the opening of his local these people we do not need, This includes every one from the state level right on down to our school board and superintendant candidates. Do you really want those that support BHO as leaders for your children or our State. A vote for one is a vote for all. |

| What I get tired of the most is someone claiming to be of good moral character and claiming to be a GOD fearing human and then they want to support someone who will support Gay Rights and Abortion. People wake up. Where have our morals gone? Its not a racial issue. Once again how can a person such as Obama claim to be a man of GOD and then go on to support Abortion and Gay Rights. Its not a racial issue just the facts of what has been said. |
