One killed in local accident

CHIPLEY - A little before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Chipley Police, Washington County EMS and the Chipley Fire Department were called to Gulf Power on US 90 for a single vehicle accident involving an older model truck and a tree.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that 77-year-old Alsenior Batson, of Marianna, was traveling westbound on US 90 when his 1985 Ford pickup veered onto the south shoulder the road, in front of Bear’s BBQ, striking a mailbox, two signposts, a fence and then continued on to Gulf Power, colliding head on into a large pine tree.

Batson was transported to Northwest Florida Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  He was not wearing a seat belt.
