Community leader Tillman Pippin passes away Friday
Tillman Odell Pippin, 78, of Chipley, Florida passed away on Friday, July 11, at the Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. He was born on May 15, 1930 in Washington County to Chanley and Martha (Godwin) Pippin. He was a lifetime resident of Chipley.
He served in the Army from 1951-1953. He was retired from the Department of Transportation in Chipley and he had semi-retired from Pippin Appraisal Services in Chipley of which he and his son Philip owned. “Mr. Tillman” also served as a county commissioner of Washington County from 1966-1978, acting as chairman for 10 years.
He was also active in various clubs throughout his career including Kiwanis, serving as president in 1981; Chipola Area Board of Realtors, serving as president in 1982; and director and treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce in the 1970’s.
He was Civil Defense director and was instrumental in the building of the Northwest Florida Community Hospital. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chipley where he served as a deacon for 39 years and a member of the Gideons.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, at the First Baptist Church, Chipley, with the Rev. Michael Orr and the Rev. Adolph Phares officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at Brown Funeral Home, Brickyard Road, Chipley
“Mr. Tillman” is survived by his wife of 52 years, Madelyn (Corbin) Pippin, Chipley; one son, Phillip and wife Tonya, Chipley; one daughter, Martha Kay Andrews, Chipley; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
