Child struck by vehicle, airlifted to hospital

A small child was struck by a vehicle and was taken to a local hospital by helicopter Friday afternoon.

Bonifay Police Department reported that Alyonna Sanchez, who turns two in June, was in the middle of Hubbard Street just north of the railroad in mid-afternoon when a vehicle driven by Kayla Dawn Latham was headed south down the hill. Police said that Latham said she saw the child in the street and hit the breaks and tried to swerve and avoid the child, but failed to do so.

Sanchez appeared to suffer cuts to the head, with other injuries unknown at this time. She was transported to the Holmes County Ag Center by Holmes County EMS and picked up by AirHeart helicopter and was taken to a local hospital. The child was conscious and vocal when she left by AirHeart.

More information as it comes available.
