Bonifay Police Department roundup


BONIFAY – Bonifay Police department had a busy week as several arrests were made.

Theft of copper wire has been heavy throughout the area as the price of copper scrap has gone up, and Bonifay is no exception. BPD reports that sometime before 7:55 a.m. Sunday about 225 pounds of copper wire and scrap were stolen from West Florida Electric’s facility on St. John’s Road. If you have information in this theft, call BPD at 547-3661.

An accident at a local fast-food restaurant led to the arrest of a Texas man on drug-related charges. BPD reports that on Aug. 19 at about 11:20 a.m. a tractor-trailer and a car collided on State 79 in front of the Burger King. The driver of the car was transported to Doctors Memorial Hospital with injuries.

The tractor-trailer was damaged and was inoperable, so Florida Department of Transportation was called. After permission was give to inspect the vehicle a pipe was found that tested positive for methamphetamine. Further search found two bags inside the truck with a small amount of methamphetamine.

David Craig Fields of Groom, Texas, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance (meth) under 20 grams. BPD reports that Fields was wanted for violation of probation in Texas and had warrants from New Mexico.

A rampage against drink machines throughout the area may be over with the arrest of two Alabama men by BPD. Police report that nine drink machines in Bonifay were broken into on Aug. 12-13. All the machines were broken into and the contents and money were taken.

On Aug. 14 one of the owners of the Bonifay Inn heard change hitting the concrete as their machine was broken into and found two suspects breaking into the machine. The two fled and the vehicle and suspects were seen attempting a break in at the Piggly Wiggly, where police made the arrests.

Brian Eugene Watson of Slocomb, AL, and David Bruce Snellgrove of Dothan, AL are charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. Police report that a number of other drink machines in Dothan, Geneva, Hartford, Chipley, and Graceville were broken into using the same method.

A Deltona woman is charged with shoplifting. On Aug. 20 police responded to a shoplifting call at the Dollar General on State 90. The clerk supplied officers with the license plate number and the vehicle was found at the Bonifay IGA. The suspect told police that she had taken items from Dollar General and items were found in her purse, including four shirts. Further search by a female officer at Holmes County Jail found rolling paper and marijuana residue.

Heather Lyn Norris is charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bonifay police also apprehended a register sex offender for violation of probation on Monday. David Stanley Floyd of Georgia was convicted in 2000 on a charge of lewd and lascivious actions on a child under age 16 in Nassau.

Police are also investigating a fraud case. On Aug. 12 management of Jerkins on Pennsylvania Ave. reported that a U.S. Treasury check was used to but a cordless drill. The Westville resident in whose name the check was issued had no knowledge of the check and his signature did not match that on the check.

The check was cashed by a white female approximately 18-19 years of age, about 5-6 with brown hair and a stocky build. If you have any information call Bonifay Police Department at 547-3661.
